70mai A810S Front + Rear review

We'd call it strong value if you want front and rear 4K-class cameras with STARVIS 2 sensors without stepping up to Thinkware pricing. If you need built-in radar parking or a high-street UK brand, we'd look elsewhere.

The A810S is 70mai’s 4K dual, with a Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 at the front. That sensor is why it's in our Best 5. On the published specs, it sits next to the VIOFO A229 Pro, not next to a 1080p mini.

The rear camera in the usual kit records 1080p on a STARVIS 2 IMX662. That's weaker than VIOFO’s 2K IMX675 rear, but stronger than a generic 1080p rear with no STARVIS sensor listed. You'll still want the rear camera for a car-park bump from behind, just don't expect 4K plates from it.

Parking's listed as collision detection, AI motion detection and time-lapse. Here's the catch: 70mai is clear that these need a parking power module, while buffered emergency recording is listed for driving incidents. So we'd treat parking as available only once the hardwire kit's fitted and the voltage cutoff is set for a UK 12V battery.

The night grade is A- from the published sensor class. If you'd like the same front sensor with a 2K rear, we'd say the A229 Pro is the cleaner dual on the published specs. And if you want parking that uses less power overnight, have a look at the Thinkware U3000 PRO.

Who this suits

You'll hardwire a dual kit, and you care more about the sensor than a big screen.

Why not choose the A229 Pro instead?: The A810S is the more affordable way to get a 4K front-and-rear setup with STARVIS 2 sensors. The A229 Pro's the stronger dual for footage quality, and VIOFO explains its buffered parking more clearly.
Is parking included in the box?: The modes are listed, but you can only use them once you've fitted a hardwire kit and parking power module.
What about the rear sensor?: This kit uses a STARVIS 2 rear. Before you buy, we'd make sure the Amazon title still says it's a front-and-rear package.
