70mai A810S Front + Rear review

A front dash camera with a screen and a slim rear camera on a white table

The A810S is 70mai’s 4K dual with a Sony STARVIS 2 IMX678 at the front. That sensor is the reason it is in the Best 5. On a spec sheet it sits next to the VIOFO A229 Pro, not next to a 1080p mini.

The rear camera in the usual kit records 1080p on a STARVIS 2 IMX662. That is weaker than VIOFO’s 2K IMX675 rear, and stronger than a generic 1080p rear with no named sensor. For a car-park bump from behind, you still want the rear. You just should not expect 4K plates from it.

Parking is listed as collision detection, AI motion, and time-lapse. 70mai is explicit that these need a parking power module. Buffered emergency recording is listed for driving incidents. Treat parking as real only after the hardwire kit is fitted and the voltage cutoff is set for a UK 12V battery.

We have not lab-tested night plates. The sensor class is why the night grade is A-. If you want the same sensor with a 2K rear, the A229 Pro is the cleaner dual. If you want parking that sips power overnight, the Thinkware U3000 is the specialist.

Who it is for

Drivers who will hardwire a dual kit and care more about the sensor than about a 3-inch screen.

People who want 4K-class STARVIS 2 evidence without Thinkware money.

Who should skip it

Anyone who wants built-in radar or LTE cloud.

Anyone who wants a Nextbase they can take back to Halfords.

The good

  • IMX678 at the front is the same class of Sony sensor used on dearer 4K duals
  • Rear camera in this kit is also STARVIS 2, which is not true of every dual at this money
  • Wi-Fi 6 and a 3-inch screen are on the spec sheet

The bad

  • Parking power is a separate module — it is not in every box
  • UK support is thinner than Nextbase
  • No built-in radar
