Miofive S1 Ultra Dual 4K review

We'd look at the S1 Ultra if you want 4K front and rear with a proper screen, and you're happy to take the maker's word on night footage. If named STARVIS 2 sensors and buffered parking matter more to you, we'd go for the VIOFO A229 Pro 2CH.

If you want 4K at both ends of your car, the S1 Ultra is one of the few kits that offers it. Miofive lists 4K at 30fps at the front and 4K at 24fps at the rear, with a 3-inch IPS screen, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and a supercapacitor rather than a battery. Parkers named the S1 Ultra its best tech product in its 2026 awards, which is a big part of why it's on so many UK shortlists.

Here's the catch: Miofive says both cameras use 8MP sensors, but it doesn't say which ones. Most rivals at this level name a Sony STARVIS 2 part, and that's the best clue we've got for plates after dark. So we've given it a B for night rather than an A. Resolution helps, but the sensor matters just as much once the streetlights are doing the work.

For parking, the manual says the camera powers down about 10 seconds after you switch off, then wakes and records around 60 seconds when the G-sensor feels a knock. There's also a time-lapse mode for up to 24 hours. Both need Miofive's USB-C hardwire kit or the OBD-II cable. That's useful if your car's parked on the street overnight, but an impact wake can miss the moments just before the bump, which is why we'd lean on a buffered camera if parking is your main worry.

If evidence after dark is the priority, we'd compare it with the VIOFO A229 Pro 2CH. If a screen and easy UK buying are what you're after, the Nextbase 622GW is worth a look too.

Who this suits

You want 4K resolution on the rear camera, not just the front.

You'd like a 3-inch screen to check the picture in the car.

You mostly want driving evidence, and parking mode is a nice extra.

When another camera fits better

You want a named Sony STARVIS 2 sensor before you trust it after dark.

You need parking mode to catch the seconds before a bump. The S1 Ultra wakes on impact instead.

What works well

  • 4K on the rear camera too, which few front-and-rear kits offer
  • 3-inch IPS screen for checking the view in the car
  • Dual-band Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for getting clips onto your phone

What to watch for

  • The sensor model isn't published, so night performance rests on the maker's claims
  • Parking mode wakes on impact, so there's no buffer of the seconds before a bump
  • The rear records at 24fps, a little lower than the front's 30fps

Common questions

Is the Miofive S1 Ultra really 4K at the rear?
Yes, on Miofive's published specs. The rear records 3840×2160 at 24fps, and the front records 4K at 30fps.
Does the S1 Ultra use a Sony STARVIS 2 sensor?
Miofive doesn't say. It lists 8MP sensors front and rear without naming the model, so we've graded night footage more cautiously.
Does parking mode work without a hardwire kit?
No. Miofive says you'll need its USB-C hardwire kit or the OBD-II power cable, both sold separately.

Also consider

  • VIOFO A229 Pro 2CH

If footage quality is what you care about, this front-and-rear kit is built around it: 4K and 2K STARVIS 2 cameras, with buffered parking once you've fitted a hardwire kit.

  • Nextbase 622GW Front + Rear

If you want the 4K 622GW with a rear camera from day one, this kit pairs it with a 1080p rear in the box. Parking mode only works once you've fitted a hardwire kit.

  • 70mai A810S Front + Rear

If you'd like 4K-class STARVIS 2 cameras front and rear without paying Thinkware money, this one's the value route. Parking modes are listed, but they only work once a hardwire kit keeps the power on after you've locked the car.
