BlackVue DR970X-2CH LTE review
Buy this if live view and cloud alerts are the job. Skip it if you want a 2K rear or radar parking without a data plan.

The DR970X-2CH LTE is BlackVue’s connected 4K dual. The front is 4K from an 8MP sensor. The rear is 1080p on a Sony STARVIS chip. The body is the usual BlackVue cylinder, which sits cleanly behind a mirror. The LTE modem is the reason this listing exists: you can put a nano SIM in the camera and reach it from the BlackVue app without the car being on your Wi-Fi.
Parking mode is native. BlackVue’s spec is clear that a Power Magic Pro hardwire kit or a battery pack is required. ACC from the hardwire kit is what drops the camera into parking when you switch off. Cloud alerts while you are away need the LTE plan as well. That is two extras, not one.
Compared with the Thinkware U3000, you gain live view and a SIM. You lose built-in radar and a 2K rear. For a street-parked car, radar that lasts four days on a battery is a different product from a camera that streams when something happens. We keep both on the site because they solve different needs.
We have not run this camera on a UK SIM. Confirm the LTE variant matches UK bands before you buy, and budget for the hardwire kit plus data.
Who it is for
Drivers who will fit a hardwire kit and a SIM.
People who want to see the car from a phone when it is parked.
Who should skip it
Anyone who does not want a mobile data plan.
Anyone who wants the best rear-camera evidence or built-in radar without a SIM.
The good
- Built-in LTE, so cloud alerts do not depend on the car being near your home Wi-Fi
- 4K front and a STARVIS rear in a discreet cylindrical body
- Parking mode is a native BlackVue feature, not a menu afterthought
The bad
- Rear is 1080p, not 2K
- LTE needs a compatible SIM and a plan
- No built-in radar — overnight recording still draws real current
Common questions
- Does LTE replace hardwire?
- No. LTE sends alerts. The camera still needs a hardwire kit or battery pack to record after ignition off.
- Rear resolution?
- 1080p STARVIS on the sheet — weaker than a 2K VIOFO rear.
- U3000 or BlackVue?
- U3000 for radar that sleeps overnight. BlackVue if you want a SIM and live view on your phone.
